I’ve been called a Guru<\/em>…<\/span><\/p>\n

Me! A Guru!<\/span><\/p>\n

Anyway, that’s what someone called me on Facebook.<\/span><\/p>\n

So it must be true, eh?<\/span><\/p>\n

OK. Perhaps I shouldn’t get quite so excited…<\/span><\/p>\n

But I suppose that’s what friends are for, eh? …to make you feel good about yourself!<\/span><\/p>\n

Anyway, this lady sent me a question…<\/span><\/p>\n

Hello cruise guru!<\/span><\/p>\n

Have you ever cruised from Southampton down the west coast of Spain in January? Wondering about problems with rough weather.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Now if I’d been on hundreds of cruises… and dined with captains and officers… and sailed around the world… maybe I could consider myself an expert.<\/span><\/p>\n

But no…<\/span><\/p>\n

I’d been on only a handful of cruises. Just a few!<\/span><\/p>\n

And yet I was called a Guru<\/em>!<\/span><\/p>\n

Why?<\/span><\/p>\n

Because I Shared Some Information<\/span><\/h2>\n

It’s all because of the How To Cruise<\/a>\u00a0website.<\/span><\/p>\n

“The what?”<\/span><\/p>\n

Let me explain…<\/span><\/p>\n

After we’d been on our very first cruise in 2012, we created the HowToCruise.co.uk<\/a> website to help people who would be asking the same sort of questions as we’d been asking.<\/span><\/p>\n

Questions like…<\/span><\/p>\n

“Where should we go on a cruise?”<\/span><\/p>\n

“When should we go?”<\/span><\/p>\n

“Where’s the best part of the ship if you\u2019re worried you might feel sea-sick?”<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And lots of other stuff like that.<\/span><\/p>\n

You see, if you’ve never been on a cruise, you might not know about these things.<\/span><\/p>\n

And before our first cruise in 2012, we hadn’t a clue about them either.<\/span><\/p>\n

So we shared our new-found knowledge – in our new How To Cruise<\/em> website.<\/span><\/p>\n

Just Be Helpful<\/span><\/h2>\n

They’ll think you’re an expert<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

It’s the same principle with anything in life.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you set out to help people… to create a useful service…<\/span><\/p>\n

Some people will decide that you’re an expert… a font of knowledge.<\/span><\/p>\n

And they’ll go to you for help.<\/span><\/p>\n

How to be Helpful<\/span><\/h2>\n

So have a think about this…<\/span><\/p>\n

Why not think about what you’ve done in life.<\/span><\/p>\n

Perhaps your career.<\/span><\/p>\n

Or some project you’re passionate about.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maybe you’ve restored an old VW camper-van.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maybe you got into making your own wine.<\/span><\/p>\n

So why not make a website about your experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n

Perhaps<\/span> a<\/span> “how to” sort of website.<\/span><\/p>\n

Or a Blog<\/em> like this one.<\/span><\/p>\n

I’ve done neither winemaking nor restoring an old vehicle.<\/span><\/p>\n

But one day in the future, I might just search Google for some decent information on how to make my own wine.<\/span><\/p>\n

And what if your website was at position one?<\/span><\/p>\n

Simply because you set out to be helpful.<\/span><\/p>\n

1DEAS<\/span><\/h2>\n

I’ve made a brand new website.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s called 1deas<\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Yes, you read that right – it is<\/em> a 1<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Because\u00a0it’s different.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a source of ideas<\/em> for being different<\/em>…<\/span><\/p>\n

For standing out<\/em>…<\/span><\/p>\n

For living life well<\/em>…<\/span><\/p>\n

For being adventurous<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Even though it’s still in its early days (as I write, there’s only one post on it!), please do let me know what you think of the 1DEAS website<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

And when you do, let me know what your best idea<\/strong> is. I\u2019d love to include it in the collections.<\/span><\/p>\n

Soon we\u2019ll have a good compilation of applicable ideas.<\/span><\/p>\n

You’ll be able to search the categories, pick up some ideas and apply them…<\/span><\/p>\n

And you never know…<\/span><\/p>\n

One day someone might call you<\/em> a Guru <\/em>too.<\/span><\/p>\n
