I lost a stone!

No, not the sort of stone you find in abundance on the ground – or under the ground when you’re trying to hammer home those tent pegs!

Not even a diamond …wish I had a few of those though.

A real stone.

14 pounds in weight. Actually, it’s more like 20lbs.

How David?

Well, seeing you asked, I’ll tell you.

If you read my last blog post, you may remember I lost a bit of weight over Christmas.

It wasn’t by choice.

And it certainly wasn’t through self discipline.

Hah! I loved ice cream too much.

And biscuits too.

Funny thing was that, after that episode, my appetite strangely changed.

I no longer craved sugary food and drinks, and other unhealthy snacks.

And I cut down on the carbs.

So, gradually the weight continued to reduce.

Now, my BMI sits perfectly in the middle.

Yes, I know the BMI is an arbitrary figure. But the real test is that I feel much better for it.

And the middle-aged flab has reduced considerably.

Now I know some will be saying: “David, how can you lose a stone? You weren’t overweight or anything in the first place!”

To which I’ll reply: “Gee, thanks!”

Listen… I still love chocolate.

But now I eat only dark chocolate which is at least 85% cocoa. That does contain a bit of sugar, but the quality brands put in cane sugar rather than the processed stuff.

Now that I’ve got used to it, it tastes delicious.

I’ve even ventured into the 90% chocolate. Tough stuff, eh?

I’ve cut back on the carbs in the form of potatoes – certainly don’t miss them.

But I do enjoy a granary bread sandwich – hey, that has to stay!

Recently I came across a podcast called “The Fat Burning Man”, run by a chap called Abel James. It’s interviews and chats with experts and ordinary people who have discovered how to burn fat and keep trim.

So this “new me” was keen to hear what they had to say.

The strange thing is that they all say that giving up the sugar was a major key for them.

If I hadn’t experienced it for myself, I’d have said “no, it’s cutting out the fat that’s more important”.

But although the experts once propagated that idea, now they’re recognising sugar is much more harmful than they first thought.

And it’s not just in regard to obesity; think diabetes; think energy spikes and troughs.

So I just wanted to share my good news.

And share the secret to my success.

It’s the sugar.

I simply got rid of a lot of processed sugar from my diet.

And it’s made a noticeable difference!

Anyway, please excuse me…

I’m taking this new me off to the gym!
